On the night of April 27, Ukraine faced a significant aerial assault involving 94 attack drones, primarily of the Shahed type, launched from multiple locations within Russia and occupied Crimea. This information was confirmed by the Ukrainian Air Force.
The drones were reportedly launched from various points, including Kursk, Orel, Shatalovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, and Hvardiyiske in the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea, with approximately 60 of them identified as Shahed drones.
In response to the attack, Ukraine deployed its air force, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare contingents, and mobile fire groups from its defense forces. The coordinated defense efforts aimed to mitigate the impact of the assault.
As of 09:00, preliminary reports indicated that Ukrainian air defenses had successfully intercepted or suppressed 74 enemy drones, including those of the Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas types, across the northern, southern, and eastern regions of the country. The attack resulted in 20 drones striking 15 different locations, with debris from the downed drones landing in 11 areas.
Ukraine's air defense systems effectively countered a large-scale drone attack from Russia, intercepting a significant number of incoming threats. Despite the assault, the coordinated response limited the damage across various regions.
