Severe Weather in Ukraine Leads to Fatalities and Injuries

On April 26, severe weather conditions in Ukraine resulted in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to two others. Emergency services are currently addressing the aftermath across 13 regions of the country.

According to reports from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, DTEK Kyiv Regional Electric Networks, and the National Police, one fatality occurred in Cherkasy when a tree fell on an all-terrain vehicle. Another individual lost their life in Zakarpattia due to a similar incident involving a fallen tree. Additionally, a child was injured in Poltava when a tree collapsed.

Emergency responders have conducted 176 operations to remove fallen trees and initiate recovery efforts. A total of 647 rescuers and 150 units of equipment have been deployed to assist in these operations.

In regions including Volyn, Bukovina, Lviv, Ternopil, Khmelnytskyi, Vinnytsia, and Kyiv, police are ensuring road safety in areas affected by fallen trees and debris. Diversions have been organized to facilitate uninterrupted work by municipal services.

The severe weather has led to power outages affecting 1,121 populated areas.

Weather forecasts indicate that by the end of Sunday, wind gusts in western regions and Vinnytsia could reach 25–28 m/s, classified as a level II hazard (orange alert). Other parts of the country are expected to experience wind gusts of 15–20 m/s, with thunderstorms predicted in many southern, central, Kharkiv, and Sumy regions. Some areas may also experience hail and gusts of 15–20 m/s, categorized as a level I hazard (yellow alert).

On Monday, April 27, wind gusts of 15–20 m/s are expected across Ukraine, excluding the western regions, maintaining the level I hazard (yellow alert).

Severe weather in Ukraine has resulted in two fatalities and multiple injuries, prompting emergency response efforts across several regions. The adverse conditions have also led to significant power outages and ongoing safety measures by local authorities.
