The Pentagon has informed lawmakers that the demining of the Strait of Hormuz could take approximately six months, according to a report by the Associated Press.
This information was shared during a closed briefing on Tuesday with the House Armed Services Committee. Representatives from the U.S. Department of Defense provided insights, although many questions remained unanswered.
Lawmakers expressed concerns regarding the costs associated with military operations against Iran, as well as the overall strategy and objectives of the ongoing conflict. Additionally, there were inquiries about a strike on a school complex in Iran that occurred early in the conflict, which still lack clarity.
In related developments, on April 22, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran announced that its naval forces had seized two vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, which were subsequently taken into Iranian waters.
Furthermore, former U.S. President Donald Trump has indicated that reaching an agreement with Iran would be impossible if the Strait of Hormuz remains blocked.
The Pentagon has projected a six-month timeline for demining the Strait of Hormuz, raising concerns among lawmakers about military costs and strategy against Iran. Recent Iranian naval actions have added to the tension in the region.
