Drone Strike Hits Sumy as Russian Forces Intensify Attacks

In the early hours of April 21, Russian forces launched a significant drone strike on the city of Sumy, located in northeastern Ukraine. This attack targeted residential areas, resulting in damage to multiple apartment buildings and civilian vehicles.

According to Artem Kobzar, the acting mayor of Sumy, over five drone strikes were recorded in the city’s Zarichne district. The assault caused shattered windows and a fire that erupted as a result of the strikes, with one drone reportedly hitting the roof of a medical facility.

Sergiy Kryvosheienko, head of the Sumy Military Administration, shared images depicting the aftermath of the attack, illustrating the extent of the damage. Emergency services are currently on-site to assess the situation and provide assistance.

As of now, details regarding casualties and further repercussions are being clarified. The urgency of the situation has prompted local authorities to mobilize emergency response teams to address the immediate needs of affected residents.

It is important to note that on April 20, military officials from Ukraine indicated that Russian troops are positioned at a considerable distance from Sumy. Despite this, they have managed to seize several settlements near the border of Sumy Oblast.

Military spokesperson Viktor Trehubov remarked on the intensified Russian offensive in the Sumy direction, highlighting efforts to expand control zones close to the border. Concurrently, Russian forces attempted to breach Ukrainian defenses along the Kursk direction by using unconventional methods and fast vehicles to infiltrate Ukrainian positions, but they encountered a well-prepared defense.

A recent drone strike in Sumy, Ukraine, has caused significant damage to residential areas, highlighting the ongoing conflict as Russian forces intensify their attacks. Emergency services are responding to the situation as military officials note the strategic movements of Russian troops near the border.
