A drone strike attributed to Russian forces resulted in the death of a 56-year-old man and left another individual injured in Kherson’s Central District on the morning of the incident. The head of the regional military administration, Oleksandr Prokudin, confirmed these details via Telegram.
According to Prokudin, the deceased was a local resident, and the injured party is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital. Yaroslav Shanko, the head of Kherson’s military administration, specified that the attack targeted a taxi.
Local authorities reported that four individuals sustained injuries from Russian attacks in the previous day alone. The ongoing military actions have seen Russian forces employing various weaponry, including drones, missiles, and artillery, against Ukrainian cities and civilian infrastructure across the nation.
Ukrainian officials and international organizations have classified these assaults as war crimes, emphasizing their targeted nature. The strikes on essential services and healthcare facilities are viewed as attempts to deprive civilians of electricity, heating, water supply, communication, and medical assistance, raising concerns about potential genocidal actions.
Legal experts and human rights advocates argue that the systematic targeting of Ukrainian civilians during the ongoing conflict meets the criteria for genocide. This includes public declarations by Russian officials questioning the existence of Ukrainians as an ethnic group and calls for their destruction.
The 1948 United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide obligates member states to prevent and punish acts of genocide, both in wartime and peacetime. The convention defines genocide as actions intended to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group.
Despite the evidence, Russian leadership denies that its military is deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, and essential services.
A Russian drone strike in Kherson has resulted in one fatality and another injury, highlighting ongoing attacks on civilians. Local authorities report increasing casualties from such military actions, which are being classified as war crimes.
