Ukrainian Music Icon Calls for Global Support at Damaged Power Plant

During a recent visit to a destroyed thermal power station, Sviatoslav Vakarchuk, the leader of the popular Ukrainian band Okean Elzy, urged the international community to assist in the reconstruction of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. This meeting with energy workers from DTEK highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by the country amid the war.

Vakarchuk emphasized the critical nature of international support, stating, “They are constantly destroying our energy facilities in Ukraine. Your backing is vital, and we are thankful for it. Please continue to help us, as it saves lives and strengthens our resistance against aggression.”

The concert, which took place at the devastated power plant, served as a tribute to the energy workers’ dedication. Vakarchuk praised their efforts, saying, “They are true heroes. Risking their lives under constant bombardment from Russian drones and missiles, they do everything possible to ensure our homes have light and warmth.”

Since the onset of the full-scale invasion, DTEK’s thermal power stations have been attacked over 220 times by Russian forces. This concert marked Vakarchuk’s second performance at a DTEK facility, with the first occurring in early April.

Sviatoslav Vakarchuk of Okean Elzy called for international aid during a concert at a damaged thermal power station, highlighting the ongoing threats to Ukraine's energy infrastructure. His remarks underscored the bravery of energy workers amid continuous attacks.
