U.S. Army Adopts Lessons from Ukraine’s Military Innovations

U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll has stated that the United States is learning from Ukraine’s approach to warfare, particularly in the realm of innovation. His comments were made during a congressional hearing on April 16, where he testified for the first time following the dismissal of Army Chief of Staff General Randy George by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

During the hearing, Driscoll emphasized the longstanding support the U.S. has provided to the Ukrainian military, noting that American forces have stood alongside their Ukrainian counterparts since the onset of the conflict. He highlighted his recent visit to Kyiv, where he engaged with various members of the Ukrainian leadership.

“They have fundamentally changed how people conduct conflict,” Driscoll remarked, praising Ukraine’s remarkable achievements in innovation. “I have publicly stated that we are learning a great deal from them and implementing many of the lessons they have provided us.”

In a related context, former President Donald Trump had previously remarked in May 2025 that the U.S. military was actively exploring new combat strategies, including the use of drones, inspired by the ongoing war in Ukraine. He reiterated this point in August, describing the current conflict as a significant evolution in military tactics.

Trump characterized drone warfare as a groundbreaking development in military history, stating, “This is a completely new form of warfare. We are studying it very closely.” He acknowledged the harsh realities of this new combat paradigm.

U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll has acknowledged the influence of Ukraine's military innovations on American strategies, particularly in drone warfare. His remarks come amid ongoing U.S. support for Ukraine since the conflict began.
