Ukraine Secures $4 Billion for Air Defense and Drones from Allies

During a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, held in Berlin on April 15, allies committed to providing Ukraine with significant military aid, including $4 billion for air defense systems and over $1.5 billion for drones. Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced these developments following the discussions.

Among the key contributions, the United Kingdom is set to deliver the largest drone support package this year, while Germany will invest $4 billion to enhance Ukraine’s air defense capabilities. Additionally, Germany plans to allocate $600 million for developing deep and mid-strike capabilities. The Netherlands is contributing €248 million for drone technology.

Norway will provide $560 million for basic drone supplies for brigades and $150 million for a logistics hub. Spain is contributing €215 million through the SAFE initiative and is enhancing air defense with additional Patriot missiles.

Canada’s contributions include $15 million to the NSATU fund, $42 million for a Czech initiative, and $17 million for critical engineering equipment. Lithuania is allocating $39 million for the Czech initiative and $29 million for PURL, while also enhancing defense forces with armored vehicles and supporting military rehabilitation. Belgium is directing €75 million to both the Czech and German air defense initiatives and €85 million to a coalition for drones, alongside support for F-16s and increased sanctions against the Russian shadow fleet. Estonia is contributing $13 million to bolster air defense through PURL.

Fedorov highlighted the initiative led by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius to strengthen air defense, which has already secured €2 billion for urgent supplies. He noted important signals of support from the UK, Germany, and Canada regarding further cooperation.

The latest meeting of the Contact Group, known as ‘Ramstein,’ was co-chaired by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and UK Defense Minister John Healey. The next ‘Ramstein’ meeting is scheduled for June.

The previous meeting took place in Brussels on February 12, where Fedorov reported that Ukraine’s partners announced plans for military assistance totaling nearly $38 billion by 2026.

Ukraine has secured substantial military aid from allies, including $4 billion for air defense and over $1.5 billion for drones, following a key meeting in Berlin. The contributions from various countries highlight ongoing international support for Ukraine's defense efforts.
