Hungary held its parliamentary elections on April 12, with initial results showing the opposition party ‘Tisa’ in the lead. The ruling party, Fidesz, led by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, is currently in second place.
According to the Hungarian electoral commission, with 14% of ballots counted, ‘Tisa’ has secured 62% of the votes, positioning itself to potentially claim 125 seats in the Hungarian Parliament.
Fidesz, the party of the incumbent Prime Minister, has garnered 32% of the votes, which would translate to around 65 seats.
The far-right party ‘Our Homeland’ may emerge as the third political force in Parliament. Founded by former members of Jobbik who disagreed with the party’s shift in direction, ‘Our Homeland’ is led by László Toroczkai, known for his controversial statements regarding Ukraine. As of now, the party has received over 4% of the votes, falling short of the 5% threshold required to enter Parliament.
