Robert Fico, the Prime Minister of Slovakia, has publicly expressed his support for Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán just one day before Hungary’s parliamentary elections.
Fico stated that he would be monitoring the election proceedings while on a visit to Vietnam. He remarked, “I wish Viktor Orbán success in achieving all his political goals in the parliamentary elections. In my long political career, I have never encountered a more determined defender of the sovereignty and national interests of his country than Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.”
Fico further emphasized his collaboration with Orbán in fostering strong bilateral relations and ensuring a dignified status for national minorities.
The parliamentary elections in Hungary are scheduled for April 12. According to reports from Russian media, there are indications from the Kremlin that Orbán’s party may face defeat, leading to preparations to blame the Hungarian team for any potential failure.
Fico is known for his pro-Russian statements, similar to Orbán. He has pledged to continue his anti-European rhetoric even if Orbán’s party does not succeed. However, Bloomberg notes that such a scenario may hinder Fico’s ability to fulfill his promises.
Additionally, Orbán has garnered support from the Trump administration. Recently, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance visited Hungary to publicly endorse Orbán. Furthermore, President Donald Trump assured Hungary of economic prosperity should Orbán remain in power.
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has voiced his support for Viktor Orbán ahead of Hungary's parliamentary elections, highlighting their shared political goals. Amid speculation of a potential electoral defeat for Orbán, Fico's pro-Russian stance raises questions about future regional dynamics.
