Ukrainian Woman Arrested in Poland for Alleged Fraud Against Elderly Man

A 19-year-old Ukrainian woman has been detained in Poland on suspicion of defrauding a 76-year-old pensioner out of one million zlotys. The arrest took place in the town of Świdnik after the suspect received a payment of 700,000 zlotys from the victim.

According to local police, the woman was apprehended immediately after the transaction, which was part of a larger scheme that had already seen the victim transfer over 300,000 zlotys to her in previous dealings. Payments were arranged at pre-agreed locations and involved a specific password.

The elderly resident of the Świdnik district reportedly fell victim to a fraudulent investment scheme that he encountered through social media approximately two years ago. He was contacted by a woman who posed as an investment consultant, guiding him to invest in various markets, initially in Poland and later in international markets, including Turkey and Argentina.

As part of this scheme, the victim was instructed to hand over cash to individuals designated during phone conversations. Police became aware of an impending cash transfer and conducted an operation to apprehend the suspect. Following the transfer of 700,000 zlotys, detectives arrested her and seized the funds.

The suspect has been brought to the district prosecutor’s office in Świdnik, where she faces charges related to her involvement in the fraud. If convicted of misappropriating a significant amount of property, she could face up to ten years in prison.

The court, upon the prosecutor’s request, has ordered her to be held in custody for three months. Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify other individuals connected to the fraudulent scheme.
