Ukraine’s President Confirms Russian Military Objectives in Donetsk Region

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has acknowledged that Russian forces have been tasked with capturing several cities in the Donetsk region by the end of April. This revelation raises questions about the feasibility of such objectives amidst ongoing military challenges.

During a recent press briefing, Zelensky responded to inquiries regarding the situation on the front lines, specifically mentioning reports that Russian troops have been directed to seize the cities of Kostiantynivka and Druzhkivka. He confirmed the existence of these orders but expressed skepticism about their successful execution.

“This is impossible; they do not currently have the strength to accomplish this task,” Zelensky stated, emphasizing that there is little point in further discussion on the matter. He pointed out that while the enemy frequently adjusts their timelines, their overarching goal remains unchanged: to capture the entire urban agglomeration that includes Pokrovsk, Kostiantynivka, and Druzhkivka.

Zelensky further elaborated on the situation in the Pokrovsk direction, describing it as difficult but asserting that Ukrainian Armed Forces (ZSU) are maintaining their positions against the advancing Russian troops. His comments reflect a broader context of ongoing conflict in the region, where military engagements continue to evolve.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has confirmed that Russian forces aim to capture key cities in the Donetsk region by the end of April, but he doubts their capability to achieve this. He described the situation as challenging yet emphasized that Ukrainian forces are holding their ground.
