Russian Strikes Injure Three Women in Kherson Amid Ongoing Attacks

Three women were injured in Kherson on April 9 due to Russian shelling, according to the city’s military administration. The attack occurred around 10:00 AM, targeting the central area of Kherson.

An 89-year-old local resident sustained blast injuries and shrapnel wounds to her right thigh. Medical personnel provided immediate assistance at the scene.

Later, around noon, two other women, aged 46 and 49, suffered explosive and closed head injuries, along with concussions and shrapnel wounds, during a drone strike on a business facility in the Dnipro district. They were outside when the attack occurred and were subsequently hospitalized.

Russian forces have been consistently targeting Ukrainian cities and civilian infrastructure using various weapons, including strike drones, missiles, and multiple rocket launch systems. These actions have drawn condemnation from both Ukrainian authorities and international organizations, which classify them as war crimes.

Reports indicate that strikes aimed at critical infrastructure, including healthcare facilities, are intended to deprive civilians of essential services such as electricity, heating, water supply, and medical care. Legal experts and human rights advocates assert that these actions could be characterized as genocidal.

During the ongoing conflict, numerous crimes have been reported against Ukrainian citizens, including declarations by Russian officials that deny the existence of Ukrainians as an ethnic group. Such statements have been interpreted as incitements to violence against the Ukrainian population.

The 1948 United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide obligates signatory nations to prevent and punish acts of genocide during both wartime and peacetime. The Convention defines genocide as actions aimed at the complete or partial destruction of a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group.

Indicators of genocide include the killing or serious harm to group members, deliberate infliction of conditions calculated to bring about the group’s destruction, and public incitement to commit such acts. Despite the evidence, Russian leadership continues to deny that its military conducts targeted strikes against civilian infrastructure or causes civilian casualties.

Recent Russian attacks in Kherson have left three women injured, highlighting ongoing military actions against civilian areas. Ukrainian authorities and international bodies are increasingly labeling these strikes as war crimes, raising concerns over potential genocidal acts amidst the conflict.
