Power Outages Across Ukraine Due to Drone Strikes and Weather Conditions

Recent drone attacks and artillery shelling on energy infrastructure have led to partial power outages in the Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, and Sumy regions of Ukraine. Emergency restoration efforts have commenced where security conditions permit, according to a statement from the National Energy Company of Ukraine, Ukrenergo.

Additionally, severe winds have resulted in complete or partial outages affecting over 90 populated areas across four regions: Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk, Khmelnytskyi, and Kyiv. Repair teams from local energy companies are actively working to restore electricity supply.

Due to the challenging situation in the energy system, exacerbated by the aftermath of previous Russian attacks, power limitation schedules will be implemented across all regions of Ukraine from 07:00 to 22:00 for industrial consumers. Furthermore, hourly power cuts will be enforced for all consumers between 11:00 and 13:00.

“Electricity consumption has increased. As of 9:30 AM on April 8, it was 16% higher than at the same time the previous day—Tuesday. This increase is attributed to colder temperatures across all regions and overcast weather, which has reduced the efficiency of residential solar power systems, leading to a higher demand for energy from the grid,” the statement noted.

Consequently, there is a pressing need for energy conservation throughout all regions of Ukraine. The energy company has urged citizens to limit the use of high-power electrical appliances between 17:00 and 22:00 and to avoid using multiple such devices simultaneously.

The situation within the energy system remains fluid, and residents are advised to check local energy company pages for the most current information regarding power outages.

Power outages in Ukraine are attributed to both drone strikes on energy infrastructure and adverse weather conditions. Authorities are urging energy conservation as repair efforts continue across affected regions.
