Lukoil’s Nizhny Novgorod Oil Refinery Halts Operations Following Drone Attack

The Lukoil-Nizhny Novgorodnefteorgsintez refinery in Kstovo, Nizhny Novgorod region, has ceased operations after sustaining damage from a drone strike by Ukrainian forces on April 5. This information was reported by Reuters, citing industry sources.

According to data from the St. Petersburg Exchange, Lukoil has not offered gasoline, diesel, or fuel oil from this facility for sale. Industry insiders indicated to Reuters that supplies could be halted until the end of the month.

Lukoil has not responded to requests for comment regarding the situation.

The Lukoil-Nizhny Novgorodnefteorgsintez refinery is the fourth-largest oil refinery in Russia and the second-largest gasoline producer in the country. It has the capacity to process 16 million tons of crude oil annually, equivalent to approximately 320,000 barrels per day.

In recent weeks, Ukraine has intensified its strikes on oil refineries in Russia. President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukrainian forces aim to limit Russia’s ability to profit from the oil crisis exacerbated by the ongoing conflict involving the U.S. and Israel against Iran.
