Petro Pryimak, a celebrated soloist of the National Opera of Ukraine, has died at the age of 57. The news was announced by the National Opera on their official Facebook page.
In their tribute, the National Opera described Pryimak as a remarkable talent whose contributions significantly shaped contemporary opera in Ukraine. “Ukrainian musical art has lost a brilliant singer, whose name is associated with one of the brightest chapters in modern opera,” the statement read.
Pryimak’s performance style was noted for its depth, sincerity, and psychological insight into each character he portrayed. He graduated from the Kyiv Conservatory and had a distinguished career as a soloist with the National Opera, where he performed over twenty baritone roles.
His vocal legacy includes recordings featured on the album “Christmas Songs,” released in Canada, as well as various archival recordings on radio and television.
Awarded first prizes at both the All-Ukrainian Chamber Ensemble Competition in 1990 and the International Music Competition named after M. Lysenko in 1992, Pryimak was recognized for his exceptional talent early in his career.
Alongside his brother Pavlo, who also recently passed away, Pryimak held solo concerts at the National Opera of Ukraine and the National Philharmonic of Ukraine, performing in various cities across the country. The duo also appeared together in musical films such as “Tra-la-la, or As You Wish” and “The Song of the Kalyna.”
