Ukrainian Forces Strike Russian Oil Refinery in Bashkortostan

The Ukrainian military has confirmed a strike on the “Bashneft-Novoil” oil refinery in Ufa, the capital of the Russian region of Bashkortostan. This attack occurred during the night of April 2, resulting in damage to the facility and subsequent fires.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the refinery is located approximately 1,400 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. The facility is one of Russia’s largest producers of high-quality lubricants, with a processing capacity of around seven million tons of oil annually.

The General Staff emphasized the refinery’s significance within Russia’s fuel and energy sector, noting its role in supplying the Russian military. The extent of the damage caused by the strike is currently being assessed.

In addition to the refinery attack, Ukrainian forces reported strikes on the “Kulikovsky” training ground and an ammunition depot in the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia region of Ukraine.

Prior to the attack, Russian media outlet Radio Free Europe analyzed satellite imagery indicating that the drone strike on the “Bashneft-Novoil” refinery had damaged the AVT-5 primary oil processing unit. This facility had previously been targeted in a strike on September 15, 2025, which also resulted in damage to another expensive processing unit, the AVT-6.

On the night of April 2, the head of Bashkortostan, Radiy Khabirov, reported that Ufa had been attacked by drones, leading to a fire in the industrial zone of the refinery. While he did not specify which facility was targeted, he mentioned that several drones had been intercepted before reaching the oil refineries.

Russian Telegram channel Astra, analyzing footage from eyewitnesses, confirmed that a fire erupted at the “Bashneft-Novoil” refinery following the strike.

Since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, various sites within Russia have been subjected to aerial attacks, particularly oil refineries. In 2024 and 2025, these facilities have frequently been targeted, alongside Russian assets located in occupied territories of Ukraine. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has consistently confirmed these attacks, stating that Ukrainian defense forces are systematically implementing measures to diminish the combat capabilities of Russian occupying forces and to compel Russia to cease its armed aggression against Ukraine.

Ukrainian forces have confirmed a drone strike on the "Bashneft-Novoil" oil refinery in Ufa, Russia, on April 2, causing significant damage. This facility plays a crucial role in supplying the Russian military, and the strike is part of a broader pattern of attacks on Russian energy infrastructure amid ongoing hostilities.
