Customs Officer Charged with Murder After Fatal Stabbing in Lviv

A customs officer in Lviv has been charged with murder following a violent incident that resulted in the death of a military serviceman. The altercation occurred on April 2 on Paton Street during a routine check by military enlistment officials.

According to law enforcement reports, officers from the Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support (TCRSS) were verifying military documents when they stopped a man outside a funeral services shop. The suspect’s brother, who works at the customs office, intervened in the situation, leading to a heated argument that escalated into a physical confrontation.

During the scuffle, the customs officer allegedly drew a knife and inflicted multiple stab wounds to the military serviceman’s chest and neck. One of the wounds proved fatal, severing the carotid artery. Despite medical efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries while en route to the hospital.

Following the attack, both the suspect and his brother fled the scene in a vehicle but were quickly located and apprehended under Ukrainian law. A search of the suspect’s premises revealed items resembling cold weapons, and investigators are working to determine if any of these were used in the crime.

The suspect has been formally charged with intentional murder in connection with the victim’s official duties, as confirmed by the Lviv regional prosecutor’s office. Authorities are now deliberating on the appropriate pre-trial detention measures and the suspect’s suspension from duty.
