Ukrainian Forces Halt Russian Advances in Pokrovsk Region Amid Ongoing Conflict

Ukrainian military commander Oleksandr Syrskyi has reported that the Pokrovsk area remains the most intense front along the 1,200-kilometer active conflict line. Recent engagements have seen Ukrainian defense forces successfully repel multiple Russian offensives in several localities, including Hryshyne, Myrnohrad, and Tavriyske.

In a statement shared via Telegram, Syrskyi noted that Ukrainian troops thwarted a total of 291 attacks from Russian forces in this sector over the past week. He emphasized the need for heightened focus, innovative strategies, and effective coordination among units to address the persistent threat.

On March 31, the 7th Rapid Reaction Corps reported unsuccessful attempts by Russian troops to exploit fog and mist for covert movements near Hryshyne, located northwest of Pokrovsk. These maneuvers did not yield any significant progress for the Russian military.

The offensive against Pokrovsk, a city that had a pre-war population of around 60,000, began in February 2024 following the capture of Avdiivka, approximately 39 kilometers southeast. Analysts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) noted that Russian forces managed to seize most of Pokrovsk only in December 2025, nearly 21 months after initiating frontal assaults on the city.

Despite claims of complete Russian control over Pokrovsk, the Ukrainian General Staff has not confirmed these assertions, nor have they acknowledged any withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the area. The ongoing conflict continues to evolve, with both sides adapting their strategies in response to the changing battlefield dynamics.

Ukrainian forces have successfully repelled numerous Russian attacks in the Pokrovsk region, maintaining a critical defensive stance. Despite claims of Russian advances, the situation remains fluid, with Ukrainian officials disputing reports of full occupation.
