Yulia Tymoshenko Calls for Return of Control Over Ukraine’s Strategic Assets

Yulia Tymoshenko, leader of the Batkivshchyna party, emphasized the urgent need for Ukraine to regain control over its key strategic assets. She expressed concerns about the increasing trend of transferring significant state functions and strategic enterprises away from governmental oversight.

According to Tymoshenko, over the past twelve years, a total of 17 major state authorities, ranging from the Constitutional Court to the Accounting Chamber, have been removed from the jurisdiction of the Ukrainian populace. She highlighted that Ukrainians are losing access to their most valuable resources, including land, minerals, and strategic enterprises.

She pointed out that the transformation of state-owned enterprises into joint-stock companies has led to foreign supervisory boards managing these entities. “The law separates these enterprises from the state, stating that the government can no longer influence its ‘Energoatom’, ‘Ukrposhta’, ‘Ukrenergo’, or ‘Naftogaz’—these are now under foreign supervisory boards,” Tymoshenko stated. “These boards operate independently, appointing management and directors, effectively creating a state within a state.”

Tymoshenko also noted that legislative processes initiated in the Verkhovna Rada since 2014 have negatively impacted the management of state bodies, strategic enterprises, and natural resources in Ukraine.

Moreover, she clarified that her concerns are not directed at specific countries but rather at “global oligarchic players.”

“Europe is our friend and our goal. The United States is our strategic partner,” Tymoshenko affirmed. She also pledged to advocate for a review of regulations that undermine Ukraine’s economic sovereignty in the future.

Yulia Tymoshenko has called for Ukraine to reclaim control over its strategic assets, citing concerns over foreign management of state enterprises. She criticized legislative changes that have diminished state oversight and pledged to address issues impacting Ukraine's economic sovereignty.
