Ukraine Apologizes to Finland Over Drone Incident

The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued an apology to Finland regarding an incident involving drones that entered Finnish airspace on March 29 and subsequently crashed on its territory. Officials emphasized that the Ukrainian drones were not directed towards Finland.

Georgiy Tikhiy, spokesperson for the ministry, confirmed that Ukraine is in ongoing communication with Finnish authorities about the matter and has provided all necessary information to clarify the circumstances surrounding the drone crashes.

“We can firmly state that no Ukrainian drones were aimed at Finland. The most likely cause is interference from Russian electronic warfare systems. We have already apologized to the Finnish side for this incident. We share the belief with our Finnish friends that the cause of this incident, as well as the broader security challenges in our region, is Russian aggression against Ukraine,” Tikhiy stated.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also discussed the drone incident during a phone call with Finnish President Alexander Stubb. Zelensky noted that both leaders view the situation similarly.

“We are providing all necessary information. Thank you,” Zelensky remarked.

During the conversation, Zelensky updated Stubb on the outcomes of his recent meetings in the Middle East and the Gulf region.

“There are already strategic agreements in place, and our contribution to security and stabilization can be significant. Alex shared details of his activities. Security is paramount, and in a world that is so destabilized, we cannot afford to lose a single day: joint actions and results are needed. We are preparing communication formats with other European leaders,” Zelensky added.

On March 29, Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo reported that two unidentified drones had breached Finnish airspace and crashed on its territory. These drones are believed to be Ukrainian, which were likely targeting objectives within Russia but were disrupted by electronic warfare measures. The Finnish Defence Forces are currently investigating the incident.

The Ukrainian government has apologized to Finland following an incident where drones entered Finnish airspace. Officials assert that the drones were not aimed at Finland and attribute the incident to Russian interference.
