Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently held discussions in Qatar with a team of Ukrainian specialists focused on air defense strategies. This meeting was part of his efforts to bolster security measures against aerial threats in the region.
According to Zelensky, the experts have assessed the security landscape and developed actionable solutions to strengthen air protection. He emphasized the importance of receiving positive feedback from Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, regarding the contributions of Ukrainian professionals.
The President pointed out that ballistic missile and drone attacks represent significant challenges for the region. He noted that while air defense systems are effective against ballistic threats, Ukraine has devised alternative, cost-effective measures to counter drones.
Zelensky added that these strategies have already proven successful against various types of unmanned aerial vehicles, attracting interest from Qatar.
He reiterated Ukraine’s readiness to share its expertise with countries willing to support Ukraine in enhancing its defense capabilities. Qatar has expressed a commitment to long-term collaboration in various fields.
Earlier, Zelensky mentioned that 228 Ukrainian specialists are currently in the Middle East, assisting local air defense forces in combating Iranian strike drones.
He also revealed that Ukraine has received 11 requests for security assistance from neighboring countries of Iran, European nations, and the United States to counter Iranian threats and similar challenges.
On March 28, President Zelensky announced that Ukraine signed a 10-year strategic cooperation agreement with Qatar and plans to establish a similar pact with the UAE soon. These agreements will cover arms production, the exchange of operational expertise, and energy cooperation, without involving Ukrainian military participation in overseas conflicts.
