Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the signing of a defense cooperation agreement with Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense. This agreement was finalized ahead of his meeting with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
According to Zelensky, the document outlines plans for enhanced defense collaboration, technology exchange, and potential contracts and investments. He emphasized Ukraine’s readiness to share its expertise and defense systems to bolster security.
“For five years, Ukrainians have been fighting against the same kind of terrorist attacks using ballistic missiles and drones that the Iranian regime is currently inflicting on the Middle East and the Gulf region. Saudi Arabia has what Ukraine is interested in. This cooperation can be mutually beneficial,” Zelensky stated.
During the meeting, discussions also covered the situation in the Middle East and the Gulf region, Iranian support for Russia, fuel markets, and prospects for energy cooperation.
Ukraine’s Support to Saudi Arabia
Previously, Zelensky mentioned that 228 Ukrainian specialists are currently in the Middle East, assisting local air defense forces in combating Iranian drone strikes.
He also noted that Ukraine has received 11 requests for security support from neighboring countries of Iran, European nations, and the United States to counter Iranian threats.
Zelensky highlighted that Ukrainian military experts have been working in Saudi Arabia for over a week, focusing on enhancing air defense against Iranian threats. They are sharing Ukraine’s experience in countering aerial risks and discussing key steps for long-term collaboration.
