The Pechersk District Court in Kyiv has ordered nighttime house arrest for Nazar Husakov, a man from Lviv suspected of fraudulently collecting funds for treatment of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). This decision was announced on March 26 by Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko.
Kravchenko stated that the court’s ruling came after prosecutors requested a full-time house arrest for Husakov, who is accused of misappropriating donations intended for his medical care. As part of the court’s decision, Husakov must surrender his passport and is prohibited from leaving Lviv without permission from investigators, prosecutors, or the court.
During the court proceedings, Husakov’s defense attorney argued against the request for full-time house arrest, suggesting that a nighttime arrangement would suffice. She emphasized that Husakov requires lung ventilation twice daily and needs to spend time outdoors, citing a deterioration in his health condition.
Husakov agreed with his attorney’s statements, while the prosecutor acknowledged that the request for full-time house arrest did not take into account Husakov’s medical needs. Ultimately, the court granted a compromise, instituting house arrest from 10 PM to 6 AM.
This measure will remain in effect until May 26. The Prosecutor General noted that Husakov had recently returned to Ukraine after receiving treatment in Italy.
Additionally, Kravchenko mentioned that the number of victims in the case has risen from 34 to 96, with the total amount of damages increasing from 1.3 million to 2 million hryvnias. Investigators suspect that the funds raised may have been diverted for gambling, cryptocurrency investments, and personal expenses.
The court’s conditions allow Husakov to leave his residence only for medical appointments or to seek shelter during air raid alerts. Reports of potential misuse of the funds Husakov collected surfaced in June 2025, leading to a criminal investigation initiated by the police on June 22.
Amidst the allegations, Husakov claimed he never mixed his personal funds with donations intended for medication. The mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadovyi, stated that Husakov had been receiving the medication Eversidi funded by the city since June of the previous year, although Husakov contended that the supply was insufficient.
A Kyiv court has placed Nazar Husakov under nighttime house arrest as he faces allegations of fraud related to funds raised for SMA treatment. The case has seen a significant increase in the number of victims and the total amount of damages.
