In a coordinated operation on March 25, Ukrainian defense forces reportedly struck a Russian patrol icebreaker at the Vyborg Shipyard in the Leningrad region of Russia. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced the incident via Telegram.
The vessel in question is identified as the “Purga,” a Project 23550 icebreaker intended for operations with the Russian Federal Security Service’s Border Guard. These types of ships serve dual roles, functioning both as icebreakers and military vessels.
On the same night, drones targeted the Leningrad region, resulting in confirmed strikes at the Ust-Luga ports, where a fire broke out, and in Vyborg, where both a ship and an adjacent building ignited. Reports also indicated an assault on the NOVATEK-Ust-Luga facility.
