Ukrainian law enforcement has charged a 21-year-old man believed to be involved in a terrorist attack in Bucha, a suburb of Kyiv. The police reported that the suspect was apprehended following a coordinated operation by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and local police.
According to police statements, the suspect claimed to have met an unidentified individual through an online video game. Their communication reportedly transitioned to a messaging app, where he was allegedly approached by a representative from Russia. The suspect was purportedly instructed to carry out explosions in the region and was provided with detailed guidance on constructing explosive devices. For each task completed, he was promised a reward of 25,000 hryvnias.
On March 23, the SBU announced that its counterintelligence units, along with police, arrested the individual within hours of a double bombing incident in Bucha. The criminal case has been initiated under Article 258, Part 2 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code, which pertains to terrorist acts.
Earlier, Mykola Kalashnyk, the head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration, reported that two police officers sustained injuries during the second explosion while responding to the scene of the first blast.
