Moldova Shuts Down Key Power Line Amid Attacks on Ukrainian Infrastructure

A critical power line connecting Moldova to Romania has been shut down following attacks on energy infrastructure in southern Ukraine. The Isakcha-Vulcanesti line, which serves as a primary export route for electricity, was disabled due to the ongoing conflict.

The Moldovan Ministry of Energy confirmed the disconnection, attributing it to the recent strikes by Russian forces on Ukraine’s energy systems. This disconnection has raised concerns about the stability of electricity exports to Romania.

Despite the shutdown, the ministry has not reported any power outages in local communities. Teams from three energy operators are currently conducting necessary technical inspections, which may take several hours to complete.

Previously, a similar disconnection at the end of January resulted in a significant blackout across the region, highlighting the vulnerability of energy supplies amidst the ongoing conflict.

The shutdown of the Isakcha-Vulcanesti power line in Moldova underscores the impact of ongoing military actions in Ukraine on regional energy supplies. While local outages have not been reported, the situation remains precarious as inspections are underway.
