The United States has conducted military strikes aimed at Iranian radar facilities and observation posts that were reportedly monitoring tanker movements in the Strait of Hormuz. This action is expected to enhance maritime safety in the region.
Admiral Brad Cooper, the commander of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), confirmed that these strikes have diminished Iran’s capabilities, particularly those of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, to threaten vessels in the strategically important waterway.
“As we work alongside our partners, we remain focused on eliminating the long-standing threat to free trade posed by Iran throughout the Strait of Hormuz,” Cooper stated.
According to Cooper, U.S. forces targeted an underground facility belonging to the Iranian military, which housed radar systems essential for monitoring maritime traffic.
“The strike destroyed intelligence outposts and missile radar systems that were used to track the movement of vessels… As a result, Iran’s ability to threaten the freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and surrounding areas has been weakened,” Cooper noted.
