U.S. Lifts Sanctions on Belarusian Financial Institutions and Companies

John Cole, the U.S. Special Representative for President Donald Trump, has announced the removal of sanctions against several Belarusian entities, including the Ministry of Finance, the Development Bank of Belarus, and Belinvestbank. This announcement follows a meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko at the Palace of Independence in Minsk.

In addition to these institutions, the U.S. will also exclude the Belarusian Potash Company and Belaruskali from all sanctions lists. Cole emphasized that the process of lifting these restrictions will be expedited compared to previous instances.

“Before visiting Minsk, we engaged in extensive discussions with other American agencies involved in the implementation of sanctions. I assure you that this time it will be significantly faster,” Cole stated.

This announcement follows the U.S. Treasury Department’s decision on November 4 to lift sanctions on the Belarusian airline Belavia.

The U.S. has announced the lifting of sanctions on key Belarusian financial institutions and companies, signaling a potential shift in diplomatic relations. This decision follows recent discussions between U.S. officials and Belarusian leadership.
