Trump Rejects Iranian Attempts to Resume Diplomatic Talks

U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly declined recent overtures from Iranian officials seeking to restart diplomatic negotiations. According to sources cited by CNN, the Iranian side reached out to Trump’s special envoy, Brian Hook, and other members of the U.S. administration in hopes of rekindling discussions.

Two senior officials from the White House, speaking on condition of anonymity, indicated that while Trump expressed a willingness to engage in dialogue, he is not interested at this time. One official stated, “The President said he is ready to talk, but not right now, as he wants Operation Epic Fury to continue without interruption.”

Some U.S. allies in the Middle East have offered to mediate talks regarding the cessation of hostilities and Iran’s nuclear program; however, these proposals have also been rejected by the Trump administration.

Concerns about the current state of Iran’s leadership may have influenced Trump’s decision. Reports suggest uncertainty surrounding the newly appointed Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the late Ali Khamenei. Trump himself expressed doubt about Khamenei’s health and his capacity to make critical decisions.

In a recent media interaction, Trump remarked, “Many say he is severely injured—some claim he has lost a leg. Others suggest he may even be dead. No one has confirmed that he is in good health… It is unusual that no one has seen him since his appointment as Supreme Leader.”

Prior to this, Axios reported that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi had contacted Hook, marking the first communication since February 28. However, Araqchi has denied this interaction.

Trump also characterized it as premature to discuss a “victory” in the ongoing conflict with Iran.

U.S. President Donald Trump has turned down Iranian requests to resume diplomatic talks, citing ongoing military operations and uncertainty regarding Iran's leadership. Reports suggest that U.S. allies have offered to mediate, but these proposals have been declined.
