France is intensifying efforts to secure a €90 billion loan ahead of the upcoming European Council meeting next week. This initiative coincides with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to France.
A source from the Élysée Palace confirmed that despite an agreement reached by EU leaders during a summit in December, new obstacles have emerged. The French government is committed to addressing these challenges collaboratively with its partners before the council convenes.
When asked if President Emmanuel Macron would request Zelensky to repair the damaged Druzhba pipeline to facilitate the loan approval, the official stated that a decision has already been made.
“The pipeline has sustained damage, and the facilities necessary for its operation are affected. The current disruption is a direct result of strikes carried out by Russia, which must be held accountable for this situation. We will certainly do everything possible to assist Ukrainian authorities in navigating this discussion with our Hungarian and Slovak partners,” the source elaborated.
