The Ukrainian government has announced a temporary cashback program for fuel purchases at gas stations, set to operate until May 1. Under this initiative, consumers will receive a percentage of their spending back, aimed at alleviating the financial burden of rising fuel costs.
The cashback rates are structured as follows: 15% for diesel fuel, 10% for gasoline, and 5% for autogas. This program will be available at participating gas stations and is part of the “National Cashback” initiative, which currently serves approximately 9.4 million citizens.
Fuel prices in Ukraine have been affected by fluctuations in the global energy market, particularly due to instability in the Middle East. Oil prices surged to $100 per barrel before experiencing a slight decline, with Brent crude currently trading around $96 per barrel. Despite this recent drop of about 20%, prices remain elevated compared to levels prior to the Middle Eastern crisis, contributing to an overall increase of approximately 20% in fuel costs.
In response to the rising prices, the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine has requested explanations from major gas station networks regarding their pricing strategies. According to the committee’s head, Pavlo Kyrylenko, demand for A-95 gasoline has surged by 40-70%, while diesel demand has increased by 60-140%, significantly impacting market dynamics.
Additionally, Danilo Hetmantsev, head of the parliamentary committee on fuel and energy, has urged fuel market representatives to refrain from exploiting public anxiety for excessive profits.
The Ukrainian government has launched a temporary cashback program for fuel purchases as prices rise due to global market fluctuations. The initiative aims to provide financial relief to consumers while addressing concerns about price hikes in the fuel sector.
