North Korea Criticizes US and Israel for Attacks on Iran Following Leadership Change

North Korea has condemned the recent military actions by the United States and Israel against Iran, asserting its support for Iran’s sovereignty in selecting its new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei. This statement follows the death of his father, Ali Khamenei, and the subsequent appointment of Mojtaba by Iran’s Assembly of Experts.

According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), a spokesperson for North Korea’s Foreign Ministry expressed strong disapproval of the strikes, which they claim undermine regional peace and contribute to global instability. The spokesperson characterized these actions as illegal military aggression against Iran.

North Korea also denounced what it termed external interference in Iran’s political affairs, warning that any threats or military actions aimed at destabilizing another country’s government would not be tolerated. The statement reflects North Korea’s broader stance on international relations, particularly regarding perceived Western intervention.

In its statement, North Korea acknowledged the decision made by Iran’s Assembly of Experts to elect Mojtaba Khamenei as the new Supreme Leader, framing it as a reflection of the rights and choices of the Iranian people.

The Assembly of Experts appointed Mojtaba Khamenei on Sunday, marking a significant transition in Iran’s leadership. Reports indicate that he was injured in an airstrike last week, which targeted him shortly after his father’s death.

Prior to this, on March 3, Iran International reported that the Assembly had chosen Mojtaba Khamenei as successor following the assassination of Ali Khamenei during a US military operation. However, Iran has not officially confirmed this leadership change.

In related comments, former US President Donald Trump stated on March 5 that he wished to personally influence the selection of Iran’s next leader, dismissing Mojtaba Khamenei as unworthy. He expressed that the new Iranian leadership would struggle to maintain power without US approval.

On March 8, Trump reiterated his belief that the new leader would not endure long without the backing of the United States.

North Korea has publicly condemned US and Israeli military actions against Iran, asserting its support for Iran's new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei. The statement follows significant political changes in Iran after the death of Ali Khamenei.
