Trump Dodges Questions on Russia’s Alleged Support for Iran Amid Ongoing Military Operations

On March 6, during a roundtable discussion titled “Save College Sports,” U.S. President Donald Trump sidestepped inquiries regarding allegations that Russia is aiding Iran in targeting U.S. forces.

The question was posed by Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy, who noted, “It seems the Russians are currently helping the Iranians target and attack Americans.” In response, Trump remarked, “This is a simple problem compared to what we are doing here. (…) I respect you very much. You’ve always been very nice to me. What a silly question to ask at this moment. We’re talking about something else. Can we put this off for a bit?”

On the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, marking their first discussion since U.S.-Israeli strikes began on February 28.

Reports indicate that Russia has been providing Iran with intelligence on the locations and movements of U.S. military personnel, vessels, and aircraft, including data from satellites. U.S. intelligence suggests this support has been linked to Iranian strikes on temporary U.S. military installations in the Persian Gulf region. Notably, on March 1, Iran launched a drone attack on a U.S. military site in Kuwait, resulting in six fatalities.

White House spokesperson Caroline Levitt stated that the administration does not consider Russia’s potential assistance to Iran as a significant concern.

U.S.-Israeli Military Operations Against Iran

On February 28, Israel conducted strikes in Tehran, prompting President Trump to announce that U.S. forces had initiated a “major combat operation” against Iran to eliminate perceived threats from the Iranian regime. He accused Iran of financing and training militants in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, and Hamas in Palestine. The operation aims to dismantle Iran’s missile industry and naval capabilities, ensuring global stability.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed to have launched missiles and drones toward Israel, as well as attacking U.S. military bases in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

In response to the escalating conflict, French President Emmanuel Macron called for an emergency United Nations Security Council meeting, while the European Union reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining regional security and stability in the Middle East.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized the need to give Iranians a chance to rid themselves of a “terrorist regime” and ensure safety for all nations affected by attacks from Iran.

On February 28, Trump tweeted that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was dead, a claim later confirmed by the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA). On March 1, the IRGC announced the commencement of its “most devastating offensive operation in the history of the Islamic Republic” against Israel and U.S. military bases. Trump warned the Iranian regime to abandon these plans, threatening a “very strong response.”

On March 2, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio indicated that the next phase of military operations against Iran would be even more destructive. Reports from Iran International on March 3 revealed that the Assembly of Experts in Iran selected a new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, son of the deceased Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. On March 6, Trump reiterated the necessity for a complete change in Iran’s leadership, mentioning he had several candidates in mind for a “good leader.”

U.S. President Donald Trump avoided questions about Russia's alleged support for Iran during a recent event. As military operations escalate between the U.S., Israel, and Iran, Trump emphasized the need for leadership change in Iran while intelligence reports suggest Russian assistance to Iran.
