Ukraine Reports No Impact on U.S. Weapon Supplies Amid Middle East Tensions

Ukraine has not observed any negative effects on U.S. weapon supplies funded by NATO allies through the PURL program, according to Aliona Hetmanchuk, Ukraine’s ambassador to NATO. In a statement to Radio Liberty, she confirmed that there have been no changes or delays in deliveries related to recent events in the Middle East.

Hetmanchuk emphasized the importance of timely contributions from nations financing the procurement of U.S. weapons, which are crucial for ensuring efficient processing and delivery. She stated, “We are explaining to NATO member states and partners that there are two main ways to assist us in effectively defending against massive attacks, particularly ballistic ones: through contributions to the PURL program or by providing interceptor missiles from their stockpiles.”

Recently, President Volodymyr Zelensky noted that while the PURL program is operational, escalating military actions in Iran could potentially affect the availability of air defense systems for Ukraine. The PURL agreement, established in summer 2025, aims to facilitate the transfer of U.S. weapons to Ukraine, funded by European countries, with NATO coordinating the process. Ukrainian authorities reported that contributions to the PURL program reached $4.3 billion in 2025, including nearly $1.5 billion in December alone.
