Ukraine Allocates Additional Funds for Road Repairs Amid Ongoing Conflict

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced a meeting focused on road repairs, attended by Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Kuleba and Head of the State Agency for Restoration and Development of Infrastructure Serhiy Sukhomlyn.

Following the discussions, the government plans to allocate an extra 3 billion UAH from the state budget’s reserve fund to support pothole repairs on highways in frontline regions and on major roads with heavy traffic. Svyrydenko shared this update via Telegram.

She noted that work has already begun on international and national routes, particularly in areas near the front lines. The repairs are not intended to be capital works but will focus on ensuring basic safety and traffic flow. The completion of these repairs is expected by June 1.

Svyrydenko emphasized that road conditions are vital for military logistics, the evacuation of the wounded, and the overall functioning of the economy and communities.

On March 2, Svyrydenko reported that current repairs on public roads have commenced, covering an area of over 3.5 million square meters.

At the end of February, Sukhomlyn highlighted a critical shortage of funds for road repairs across various levels, estimating the total need at 51.3 billion UAH to ensure proper maintenance and prevent deterioration next winter. Currently, only 4.6 billion UAH has been allocated.

Road construction and repair projects have faced scrutiny regarding their necessity and quality. Additionally, there have been allegations of corruption during these projects, with the National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office investigating former officials for embezzling over 392 million UAH intended for road repairs.

Ukraine's government is set to allocate 3 billion UAH for urgent road repairs in frontline areas. This initiative aims to enhance logistics for defense forces and improve public safety amid ongoing conflict.
