Ukrainian Air Force Logistics Commander Faces Corruption Charges in Secret Court Hearing

The High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine has opted to conduct closed hearings regarding the preventive measure for Andriy Ukrayets, the commander of logistics for the Air Forces. Ukrayets is under suspicion for corruption linked to the construction of shelters for aircraft.

According to a report from Radio Svoboda, both the prosecution and defense requested the court to hold the proceedings in a closed setting. The court agreed, citing the need to protect information that is legally classified.

Earlier, another suspect in the case, Volodymyr Kompanichenko, head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in the Zhytomyr region, was remanded in custody.

On February 25, Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko announced that both the logistics commander and the regional SBU chief were implicated in corruption during the construction of aircraft shelters. Both officials were detained.

In May 2025, the government allocated 1.4 billion UAH for the construction of modular arch structures. Kravchenko stated that inspections by the SBU’s military counterintelligence revealed significant violations: the projects did not meet safety standards, the structures failed to provide adequate protection for aircraft, and the costs were excessively inflated. Despite these findings, advance payments were initiated under the contracts.

The Office of the Prosecutor General (OPG) claims that to conceal the embezzlement of budget funds and halt inspections, the logistics commander sought assistance from the regional SBU chief to facilitate bribery of military counterintelligence leadership. The SBU chief reportedly agreed and acted as a ‘guarantor’ of the arrangement, personally involving a contractor in the scheme.

Subsequently, the Air Forces announced the initiation of an internal investigation. The SBU has not publicly commented on the ongoing case.

The High Anti-Corruption Court in Ukraine is conducting closed hearings for Andriy Ukrayets, accused of corruption in aircraft shelter construction. This follows significant allegations against multiple officials, leading to an internal investigation.
