On February 27, authorities in at least ten regions of Russia issued alerts for potential rocket attacks, reportedly in response to threats from Ukraine, according to Russian media reports.
Andriy Kovalенко, head of Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation, indicated that at least 13 areas had declared a state of rocket danger, many of which are not near the border. Regions including Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, Chuvashia, Udmurtia, Samara, Ulyanovsk, Penza, Saratov, Orenburg, Sverdlovsk, Rostov, and Kursk were specifically mentioned, with at least eight of these areas experiencing such alerts for the first time.
“Authorities in Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, Chuvashia, Udmurtia, and other regions have been warned about the possibility of a rocket attack. Glory to Ukrainian missiles,” Kovalенко remarked.
Local Telegram channel ASTRA reported that for the first time since the start of the conflict, alerts were issued in Perm Krai and Sverdlovsk Oblast, located over a thousand kilometers from Ukraine.
Ukrainian missile capabilities, particularly the “Flamingo” missile, have been noted to reach distances of up to 3,000 kilometers. Previous reports indicated strikes on the Votkinsk factory in Udmurtia using these missiles.
On the same day, Ukrainian military sources did not confirm any launches of the “Flamingo” missiles. Meanwhile, Yuri Slyusar, the governor of the border region of Rostov, reported that Russian forces had intercepted a Ukrainian missile, with debris landing on a building in Taganrog, although no injuries were reported.
In addition to Rostov, alerts were also declared in Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, and other Volga regions. Authorities in Chuvashia reported two missiles, one of which was allegedly intercepted while the other headed towards Orenburg. This post was later removed, as noted by Baza.
As a precaution, many schools and kindergartens in the affected regions suspended classes. In Chuvashia, students were directed to shelters during the alerts.
Reports also emerged of drone attacks across various regions of Russia. In Kursk, one person was killed when a drone struck an auto service center, with three others sustaining injuries, according to the regional governor.
Since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russian regions and territories occupied by Russia have frequently faced shelling and drone strikes. Ukrainian officials, when confirming such incidents, emphasize their efforts to undermine the logistical bases of the Russian military to reduce its offensive capabilities.
On February 27, multiple Russian regions declared a state of rocket danger, reportedly due to threats from Ukraine. The alerts affected both border and non-border areas, highlighting the ongoing conflict's extensive impact.
