Ukraine is preparing for a significant escalation in peace negotiations with Russia, aiming to transition discussions to a leadership level. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed optimism that the upcoming meeting with Russian representatives and U.S. officials could pave the way for direct talks among the heads of state.
During a recent conversation with former U.S. President Donald Trump, Zelensky noted the involvement of key U.S. representatives, including Special Envoys Steve Vitkoff and Jared Kushner. He emphasized the ongoing efforts of both teams to bring an end to the conflict, stating, “I thanked them for all their efforts and engagement in the negotiations to conclude the war.”
Zelensky highlighted the importance of military support from the United States, particularly through the PURL program, which provides ammunition for air defense systems. This assistance is deemed crucial in countering Russian missile strikes.
Additionally, Zelensky mentioned a planned meeting between Ukraine and the U.S. in Geneva on February 26, along with preparations for a trilateral meeting scheduled for early March. He expressed hope that this upcoming dialogue would facilitate a transition to discussions at the leadership level, reiterating Trump’s support for this approach. “Only in this way can we address all complex and sensitive issues and finally end the war,” he concluded.
