Ukraine is rapidly constructing anti-drone nets along roads near its border with Russia to enhance security in frontline areas. This initiative comes in response to the increasing use of drones by Russian forces to target civilian vehicles, rescue teams, and repair crews.
The Minister of Defense emphasized the importance of these protective measures, stating, “We are strengthening the defense of frontline territories and accelerating the construction of anti-drone nets. Our focus is on roads that ensure uninterrupted logistics and the livelihoods of communities near the combat line.” The government has allocated 1.6 billion hryvnias for this project.
In February, the pace of construction surged, with the daily installation of protective nets increasing from 5 kilometers in January to 12 kilometers. During this month alone, 125 kilometers of roads were secured with these nets, and an additional 55 kilometers of existing structures were restored.
The Minister announced plans to ramp up efforts further, aiming to cover 20 kilometers of roads per day by March. By the end of the year, the goal is to establish an additional 4,000 kilometers of anti-drone protection along roadways. Furthermore, Ukraine is also expediting the construction of fortifications in the Kharkiv, Sumy, and Chernihiv regions.
Ukraine is intensifying its construction of anti-drone nets along roads near the Russian border to protect civilians and ensure logistical support. The initiative has seen a significant increase in construction speed, with ambitious plans for further expansion throughout the year.
