Explosions in Lviv Result in Casualties Among Police Officers

Explosions rocked Lviv in the early hours of February 22, leading to fatalities and injuries among law enforcement personnel. The National Police of Ukraine confirmed the incidents on their official Facebook page.

The first explosion was reported around 12:30 AM, followed by another at approximately 12:43 AM. The blasts were audible not only within the city but also in surrounding areas.

By 1:21 AM, authorities announced that police officers had been killed and injured due to the explosions, which occurred shortly after patrol units responded to a call. Emergency services are currently on the scene.

Lviv’s Mayor Andriy Sadovyi later stated that 14 individuals had been hospitalized, with medical teams providing necessary care. He characterized the incident as a terrorist act, indicating that a 23-year-old police officer was among the deceased.

According to reports from the scene, the explosions took place near the Magnus shopping center in the city center. Emergency responders, including police and medical teams, are actively working in the area, where several buildings have sustained damage, particularly to windows and facades.

The Lviv regional prosecutor’s office confirmed the death of the young police officer and noted damage to both a patrol vehicle and a civilian car. The total number of injured individuals is still being assessed.

Initial information revealed that at 12:30 AM, a call was made to emergency services regarding a break-in at a store on Danilyshyna Street. The first explosion occurred as the police patrol arrived, followed by a second explosion upon the arrival of another unit.

Authorities have initiated an investigation under Article 258, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which pertains to terrorist acts resulting in severe consequences.

Explosions in Lviv on February 22 resulted in casualties among police officers, with one officer confirmed dead and multiple injuries reported. The incidents are being investigated as a terrorist act.
