Slovak Opposition Accuses PM Fico of Threatening Ukraine on Kremlin’s Orders

The Slovak opposition party SAS has accused Prime Minister Robert Fico of issuing threats against Ukraine, claiming he is acting under directives from Moscow. The party described Fico’s warning to halt electricity supplies to Ukraine as not only a “moral failure” but also an economic absurdity.

In a statement, the SAS asserted, “Robert Fico is once again becoming an extended arm of Moscow and is openly sabotaging Ukraine at a time when it is facing the harshest winter and Russian attacks on its energy infrastructure.”

According to the opposition, Fico’s ultimatum is more about national disgrace than energy policy. They labeled it as “not politics, but a living betrayal of the state.”

Branislav Greling, the party leader, emphasized that Slovakia would suffer financial losses from electricity sales and lose trust within the EU, further asserting that the country would be seen as being on the wrong side of history. “Fico does not want to help his neighbors; he wants to harm them,” Greling stated.

Criticism of Fico’s threats has also come from various lawmakers. Some pointed out the logical inconsistency of his warning, noting that a damaged oil pipeline cannot be repaired without electricity.

Deputy Karol Galek remarked, “The Prime Minister is trapping himself and all of Slovakia. If Ukraine lacks electricity for infrastructure repairs, oil will never flow. We will continue to sit here on our pink emergency reserves.”

The Slovak opposition party SAS has condemned Prime Minister Robert Fico for allegedly threatening Ukraine under Kremlin influence. They argue that such actions not only jeopardize Slovakia's international standing but also undermine regional stability.
