The United Kingdom has pledged £13 billion in military assistance to Ukraine, reaffirming its commitment to support the country in its conflict with Russia. This announcement was made by Luke Pollard, the UK Minister for Defence Procurement, following a meeting of defence leaders from the E5 nations, which include Poland, the UK, Germany, France, and Italy.
Pollard emphasized that the UK will continue to back Ukraine alongside its NATO partners and E5 allies. He noted that the UK will share technology and combat experience gained during the ongoing conflict.
“The UK has committed over £13 billion to military support for Ukraine. We will continue to share technologies and experiences gained on the battlefield,” Pollard stated.
As part of this support, the UK has initiated mass production of Octopus interceptors, designed to counter Iranian and Russian drones that have targeted Ukrainian infrastructure.
Pollard also highlighted the launch of the LEAP initiative, aimed at developing joint autonomous drones as a cost-effective alternative to expensive air defense systems. He indicated that these new projects will leverage technological solutions tested in the context of the war in Ukraine, focusing on practical measures rather than mere declarations to deter Russian aggression.
He reiterated that support for Ukraine remains steadfast as the anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion approaches. Pollard assessed that Moscow has not achieved its objectives, while NATO has grown stronger and more united.
“Our support for Ukraine is unwavering. Next week marks a somber anniversary as the full-scale invasion enters its fifth year. Putin believed he would win this war in three days. He was mistaken. Now, he faces a stronger, more united, and larger NATO, and Ukraine continues to fight with immense courage,” he added.
