Kyiv Enhances Air Defense with New Drone Delivery

The skies over Kyiv are set to receive a significant boost in defense capabilities as Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced the transfer of over 600 specialized drones to the National Guard of Ukraine (NGU). This latest batch of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is designed to enhance air defense operations without relying on scarce missile resources.

The 25th Kyiv Brigade, named after Prince Askold, is the recipient of these advanced multi-rotor systems. Klitschko emphasized that this delivery includes a substantial number of systems specifically tailored for air defense.

“We have provided 1,200 multi-rotor systems of various types, including 620 interceptor drones that will help protect the skies over Kyiv,” Klitschko stated.

The use of interceptor drones is critical for the capital, as it allows for the destruction of enemy reconnaissance UAVs and kamikaze drones using more cost-effective technology, thereby conserving expensive missile resources.

Funding for this initiative comes from the city budget, with Klitschko noting that support for the 25th Brigade is systematic. Since the beginning of 2026, the city has allocated 35 million UAH for the needs of this unit.

Kyiv has emerged as a leader among Ukrainian cities in direct support for defense forces. In 2025 alone, the capital directed over 12 billion UAH to support its defenders. Additionally, in January of this year, the Kyiv City Council approved an extra 3 billion UAH for security sector funding.

The allocated funds are earmarked for essential equipment procurement, including drones, electronic warfare systems, communication devices, and other gear based on direct requests from military units.

“The community of Kyiv will continue to support all our military personnel!” Klitschko concluded.

Earlier reports indicated that Klitschko had also delivered a new batch of assistance to the 5th Separate Assault Brigade, aimed at bolstering their efforts against Russian forces.

Kyiv's Mayor Vitali Klitschko has announced the delivery of over 600 specialized drones to the National Guard, enhancing the city's air defense capabilities. The funding for this initiative underscores Kyiv's commitment to supporting its military forces amid ongoing conflict.
