Zelensky Reports High Rate of Drone Interceptions by Ukrainian Forces

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has disclosed that Russian forces are launching approximately one hundred Shahed drones at Ukraine nearly every night, with Ukrainian air defense successfully intercepting around 90% of these attacks. He made these remarks during his address at the Munich Security Conference in Germany on February 14.

Zelensky emphasized the experience Ukraine has gained in countering drone threats, stating, “Today, Ukraine has more experience than anyone in the world in defending against all types of drones. Each night, we face no less than a hundred Shaheds. Sometimes, it can be 400 or 500 strike drones, and Ukrainians manage to shoot down nearly 90%. Can you imagine 90% of them? However, it is still not 100%.” His comments underline the ongoing challenges faced by Ukrainian forces in maintaining air security amid persistent drone attacks.

The situation reflects a broader context of escalating military engagements in the region, with drone warfare becoming a significant component of the conflict. The Ukrainian military has been adapting its strategies to counteract the increasing frequency and scale of these aerial assaults.

As international attention remains focused on the conflict, Zelensky’s remarks serve to highlight not only the resilience of Ukrainian defenses but also the continuing threat posed by Russian military capabilities.

President Zelensky reported that Ukrainian forces intercept about 90% of the Shahed drones launched by Russia, emphasizing the country’s growing expertise in drone defense. His comments reflect the ongoing challenges in maintaining air security amid persistent drone attacks.
