U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio did not attend the “Berlin Format” meeting concerning Ukraine at the Munich Security Conference due to a packed schedule of engagements. A U.S. government official confirmed his absence but noted that Rubio would participate in other discussions related to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine during the conference.
Rubio is expected to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the evening of February 14. This meeting is part of a series of events surrounding the Munich Security Conference, which runs from February 13 to 15.
President Zelensky reported that a meeting with representatives from Ukraine’s partner nations in the “Berlin Format” took place on February 13. Participants discussed support for Ukraine in its war against Russia, assistance for the energy sector affected by Russian attacks, and arms procurement under the PURL and SAFE programs.
“We rely on support. Attention and security guarantees for Ukraine and all of Europe are crucial. Ukrainians, along with all other Europeans, must be assured of their future and that Russian aggression will never happen again,” the President emphasized.
The Munich Security Conference serves as a significant platform for international dialogue on security issues, with this year’s focus heavily centered on the conflict in Ukraine.
