U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that a “correct deal” with Iran is essential to avoid military action from the United States. In a recent interview, he emphasized that Iran must engage in negotiations that should have been initiated earlier.
When asked what Iran could do to prevent an attack, Trump responded, “If they go for the right deal, we won’t have to do anything. Historically, they have not done that.” He criticized Iranian leaders for their lack of action, suggesting that regime change in Iran would be the most favorable outcome.
Trump remarked, “For 47 years, they have only talked, and in the meantime, we have lost many lives while they talk—people have lost limbs and suffered severe injuries.” His comments come amid escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington, primarily due to Iran’s nuclear and missile programs, which the Iranian government shows no intention of abandoning.
Recently, Trump reiterated that Iran needs to reach an agreement with the U.S. or face decisive measures. The U.S. aims to eliminate Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities, with Trump stating on February 12 that only a specific type of deal would be acceptable.
On the same day, Iran indicated a willingness to limit uranium enrichment to 60% if all financial sanctions were lifted. However, the U.S. has demanded that Iran relinquish its stockpile of enriched uranium, which the United Nations estimated last year to be over 440 kg at 60% enrichment—close to the 90% threshold considered suitable for nuclear weapon production.
Despite ongoing discussions, Iran continues to insist on the removal of sanctions and the preservation of its right to enrich nuclear fuel. Last year, five rounds of negotiations were held between the U.S. and Iran regarding the limitation of Iran’s nuclear program, but no consensus was reached due to disagreements over uranium enrichment.
President Trump emphasizes the need for a proper agreement with Iran to avoid military action, while tensions persist over the country's nuclear program. Recent statements indicate a complex negotiation landscape as both sides maintain firm positions on key issues.
