Ukraine Defends Against Massive Drone Attack from Russia

In the early hours of June 20, Ukraine faced a significant assault involving 99 attack drones launched by Russia. Ukrainian air defense forces successfully intercepted nearly all of the incoming threats, although some drones managed to strike their targets.

The offensive involved various types of drones, including the Shahed series, as well as models named Gerbera, Italmas, and imitation drones referred to as Parody. These drones were launched from multiple locations within Russia, including Oryol, Bryansk, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk.

Ukrainian defense efforts included the use of aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups. By 8:00 AM, preliminary reports indicated that 92 enemy drones had been shot down or suppressed across the northern, southern, and eastern regions of Ukraine.

However, there were confirmed impacts from seven attack drones at three different locations, with debris from intercepted drones falling in three areas as well. The Ukrainian Air Forces issued a warning stating, “The attack is ongoing, and several enemy drones remain in the airspace. Please adhere to safety regulations!”

On June 20, Ukraine successfully defended itself against a large-scale drone attack from Russia, intercepting nearly all of the 99 drones launched. Despite the defense efforts, some drones did manage to hit targets, prompting ongoing alerts from Ukrainian authorities.
