The Chonhar Bridge, located in the temporarily occupied territory of Kherson, has sustained significant damage during drone attacks on June 7 and June 9. As a result, the bridge is currently unusable for any vehicular traffic.
According to Dmitry “Perun” Filatov, commander of the First Separate Assault Battalion named after Dmitry Kotsyubailo, the structural integrity of the bridge has been critically compromised. He stated that both heavy and light vehicles are unable to cross, necessitating extensive repair work.
Filatov noted that occupying forces are now deploying pontoon crossings nearby and have altered their logistics to reroute traffic through Armyansk. However, he emphasized that Ukrainian forces maintain full control of the situation.
“We conducted another operation. We will provide details on its execution later. Due to the damage to the Chonhar Bridge, the enemy concentrated a large number of trucks carrying military supplies that were moving through Armyansk. During our strike, we managed to hit several of these trucks carrying fuel and ammunition, with approximately 50 vehicles involved, and a portion of them were destroyed,” Filatov reported.
He explained that these actions were made possible through a joint command center established by the First Separate Assault Battalion and the 475th Assault Battalion, named the “Epicenter of Multidomain Operations.” This center includes a cyber reconnaissance unit that conducts in-depth intelligence on enemy movements, allowing for informed decision-making.
Regarding the Chonhar Bridge, Filatov stated, “We made the decision based on intelligence that the enemy would be using this route to transport fuel. From the decision to execution, only six hours passed. We had pre-planned the operation concerning the Armyansk route, anticipating its use as well, which allowed us to act with greater preparedness.”
He added that such operations yield both immediate and long-term effects, as Russian forces currently struggle to supply their units effectively. In the future, they will face significant resource expenditures to restore these routes.
Filatov also highlighted that commanders on the front lines must now devote more attention to supply logistics and explore alternative methods for resupply.
“This operation would not have been possible without other units striking targets in Mariupol and along the road to Berdyansk. This led to units stationed in the Huliaipole direction having to rely on supply routes through Crimea. They began using pontoon crossings to transport trucks into Crimea and then travel from there. We quickly identified and blocked these routes, continuing to weaken the enemy,” Filatov explained.
The Chonhar Bridge in the Kherson region has been rendered unusable due to drone strikes, prompting a shift in Russian logistics. Ukrainian forces report successful operations targeting enemy supply routes, affecting the operational capabilities of Russian units.
