Ukrainian Strikes Damage Fuel Storage Facilities in Russia’s Novorossiysk

Recent satellite imagery indicates that at least four to five fuel storage tanks were either destroyed or damaged following a Ukrainian strike on the “Grushova” oil depot in Novorossiysk, Russia, on June 8. This incident is part of a broader pattern of attacks targeting Russian infrastructure.

The Ukrainian General Staff reported that operators from the 1st Separate Drone Center, in coordination with Special Operations Forces and other defense units, successfully targeted the oil depot during nighttime operations. A fire was confirmed at the site, although the extent of the damage is still being assessed.

The “Grushova” facility is part of the “Sheskharis” transshipment complex, which serves as a terminal for major oil pipelines in southern Russia. This complex is crucial for the reception, storage, and transshipment of oil and petroleum products through the Novorossiysk maritime port. The total storage capacity of this facility is approximately 1.4 million cubic meters, with the “Grushova” site handling a significant portion of this storage.

Russian military authorities have not reported any impacts on military targets as a result of the attack. However, the operational headquarters of the Krasnodar region acknowledged a fire at the transshipment complex due to a drone attack.

On the same night, the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed to have intercepted 310 Ukrainian drones over various regions, including Krasnodar. Since the onset of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, numerous facilities within Russia and in occupied territories have been subjected to aerial strikes.

The Ukrainian General Staff has confirmed most of these attacks, stating that the Ukrainian Defense Forces are systematically implementing measures aimed at diminishing the combat capabilities of Russian occupying forces and compelling Russia to cease its armed aggression against Ukraine.

The Ukrainian military has targeted the "Grushova" oil depot in Novorossiysk, damaging several fuel storage tanks. This strike reflects ongoing efforts to disrupt Russian military logistics amid the conflict.
